The mission of the Federation is to support its Member Boards in their work to ensure that the practice of massage therapy is provided to the public safely and competently. As part of this effort, some states have determined that in addition to the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx), a state jurisprudence examination is also necessary. These examinations vary from state-to-state in their delivery, execution, rigor and security levels.
The FSMTB has created a course development service (REACH) to assist state boards in creating and delivering a jurisprudence examination at no cost to our members.
Jurisprudence examination benefits:
- Possible reduction in the amount of disciplinary actions
- Free development and free maintenance
- More convenient for their licensees
- States can determine content and update information
- Resource for schools
Jurisprudence examinations can be used for more than a requirement for initial application. They can also be used for renewals, licensure by endorsement and remediation for both massage therapists and massage establishment owners.
