When developing the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx), every effort is made to respect and include the various forms of massage and bodywork practiced in the United States. There is continuous involvement from the regulatory community, as well as testing and psychometric professionals, at every step of the exam development process. A fundamental requirement for best practices in testing is to conduct a formal Job Task Analysis (JTA) every five to seven years to ensure the examination reflects current practice.
FSMTB Job Task Analysis
The Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB) conducted a Job Task Analysis (JTA) in 2022 to validate that the MBLEx is testing entry level practitioners on content related to current practice. Over 5,000 massage therapy professionals participated in the 2022 JTA survey.
The survey results were reviewed by massage and bodywork professionals and subject matter experts, under the guidance of a psychometric team.
