Happy Holidays from FSMTB!

Our office will be closed from December 23–27 as our staff takes time to recharge and celebrate with loved ones. We’ll be back on December 30, ready to support you!

FSMTB is thrilled that you have chosen to embark on this journey!  This is an exciting step forward in your career, and we are here to support you every step of the way.  To apply for the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx), please submit an application with the required fee and ensure your massage education program verifies your education with FSMTB.

MBLEx Requirements & Process

When you submit your MBLEx application, you acknowledge that you reviewed the MBLEx Content Outline (Content Outline – Español) on the Exam Content page. You also affirm that you possess the necessary education and training in all exam content areas and agree to follow all FSMTB policies and procedures outlined in the MBLEx Candidate Handbook (MBLEx Manual Del Candidato), specifically policies concerning examination violations, cheating, and examination results.

The FSMTB governs and administers the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx). It serves the massage therapy and regulatory communities as the national entry-level licensure examination. The MBLEx is currently utilized for licensure in 46 of the 49 regulated jurisdictions, including the District of Columbia, the U.S. territories of Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The MBLEX is offered in English and Spanish and administered at Pearson VUE Professional Centers’ highly secure facilities located in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories.

The MBLEx is a national licensing examination, which sets it apart from traditional academic assessments. Unlike conventional evaluations that rely solely on established academic curricula, a licensing exam is centered on a comprehensive nationwide Job Task Analysis (JTA). This method ensures that the exam accurately reflects the real-world challenges and responsibilities faced by massage and bodywork professionals in the field.

Please note passing the MBLEx is only one of the steps necessary for licensure in your jurisdiction. Please check with your licensing board or agency for licensure requirements.

You may contact the MBLEx service support team by emailing mblex@fsmtb.org if you have any questions.

At FSMTB, we recognize that the idea of taking a licensing exam can be quite intimidating. Will it prove to be challenging? Do I possess sufficient knowledge? What if I don’t succeed? Are those unsettling rumors true?

Rest assured, FSMTB is here to alleviate your concerns and provide you with comprehensive insights into the exam. We are happy to talk with you, listen to your feedback, and offer assistance.

In addition, our partners at Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) share the same commitment to helping massage professionals, students, and educators gain a deeper understanding of the MBLEx. A few years ago, they organized a webinar featuring an interview with our executive director, who addresses common concerns surrounding the exam.

Thank you to our friends at Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals for recording the webinar.
