FSMTB plays a crucial role in supporting schools and promoting continuing education within the field of massage therapy. FSMTB recognizes the importance of maintaining standards in massage education to ensure that practitioners are well-prepared and equipped with the necessary skills. Education

FSMTB membership is comprised of the massage therapy regulatory boards and agencies in the United States and its territories. Through the provision of education, legislative policy expertise, and regulatory programs and services, FSMTB supports our members in their work to ensure that the practice of massage therapy is provided to the public safely and competently. Resource Center

The FSMTB wants to ensure that consumers of massage and bodywork services have adequate knowledge about what they can expect from a massage and bodywork practitioner. Most importantly, FSMTB wants to ensure that the public is aware of the requirements for licensure for each state and that resources are available to check the license status of practitioners. FSMTB Board of Directors Update

OVERALAND PARK, KS – July 2024 – Keith Warren, former executive director of the former Alabama Board of Massage Therapy has resigned as vice president and member of the FSMTB board of directors. FSMTB thanks Mr. Warren for his dedication and service.

Robert Ruark, executive director of the Oregon Board of Massage Therapists, has been appointed to fill the position vacated by Warren.

Caroline Guerin, presiding officer of the TDLR Massage Advisory Board has been elected by the FSMTB Board of Directors to serve as vice president, effective immediately.

About FSMTB

The Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB) is an autonomous, non-profit organization comprised of state regulatory boards and agencies that regulate the massage therapy profession. All revenue collected by the organization is used to enhance FSMTB programs and provide support to FSMTB Member Boards in fulfilling their responsibility of protecting the public.

The mission of FSMTB is to support its Member Boards in their work to ensure that the practice of massage therapy is provided to the public safely and competently.

(GENERAL-24-83) Temporary Injunction on Program Length Regulations

On October 31, 2023, the Department published a final rule in the Federal Register that included changes to regulations pertaining to financial responsibility, administrative capability, certification procedures, and ability to benefit (ATB). Those regulations are scheduled for implementation on July 1, 2024.
